Keep your A/C in check during winters

Car A/C up-keep in winters

In winters, a blast of cool air is the last thing you want from the A/C vents of your car. However, keeping the A/C permanently off can be disastrous for when you need it the most with the summers sun draining you out of energy.

People also say that we do not use the A/C to save on fuel, as we all know that turning on the A/C increases fuel consumption. However, this can lead to a false economy strategy. Keeping the A/C off for an entire season can deteriorate its effectiveness. Not only that, not using the A/C for long periods can result in bacteria build up in the air conditioning system and also the seals could dry up which leads to corrosion. Rectifying these can be much more damaging to your health and to your pocket.

To ensure that the A/C is healthy throughout the year and effective when you need it the most, you must keep it in regular use, even when you don't really need it to keep up cool. The A/C must be used to demist the windows as dry warm air can form mist on the windows which reduces the visibility. How? Simply turn on the AC, channel the air to windscreen by positioning the air channeling nob and you will see how quickly the windows demist. In fact, this technique works faster to demist the windows when compared to the other option of simply opening up the windows and letting the cool air from outside flow in. And as we know that opening up windows increases aerodynamic drag which leads to higher fuel consumption as compared to using the A/C.
